Chairman of Cricket - Alan (Jock) Kydd

As your new Chairman of Cricket I'm pleased to bring positive news for season 2010.

I'm delighted to announce that Brad Hatchett will be the 1st XI captain next year. Brad is currently in Adelaide (& also on Facebook if that's your bag!) & has some interesting & exciting ideas about how to move cricket on at the Fury based on his experiences Down Under.

Secondly, I can confirm that Raza Ali will be our overseas player for season 2010 - he will be heavily involved in coaching & mentoring our Junior & Senior players. Raz made a real difference to us on & off the pitch last season & we're thrilled to have him back.

Thirdly, we have put together a Cricket Committee including 3 past 1st XI captains, the current 1st XI captain, a former 2nd XI captain, & the current 3rd XI captain. We've looked in detail at what is involved throughout the year running cricket at the Fury & have created an ambitious structure which we hope will give a more professional, but enjoyable, feel about the way we play & manage cricket in the Club.

Our analysis has shown that the recent expansion of the Club has not been matched with a parallel change in our organisation. We have been suffering from “scope creep”.

The committee members are myself as Chairman, Pete Masters, Russell Piper, Roger Green, Simon O'Connor & Brad as 1st XI skipper. We're joined in winter by Dick Howard, & in summer by Jane Howard, as Fixture Sec & Treasurer respectively.

We'll be sharing the details of the new structure with you early in the New Year. We'll also be getting in touch re Winter Nets.

Lastly, I'd like to thank the outgoing Chairman of Cricket Trevor Hatchett for his efforts over the last few seasons. Pressures of business mean that Trevor is unable to devote the time he previously invested in the role of Chairman but this has coincided with a time where my work load has eased enough to allow me to attempt to follow in Trevor's footsteps. When you see the new structure I mention above you'll understand how full-on Trevor's commitment has been over his time as Chairman. Trevor has kindly agreed to act as liaison with the Sussex CCC Academy, & we're pleased to have his skills in this area.

I'll be in touch with you all after the festivities,

Happy Xmas & a Good New Year
